Trailer-Style Barrier

Firetrucks often serve as blocking apparatus or blocker trucks at the scene of highway accidents to protect emergency responders. In 2019, an estimated 2,500 vehicles crashed into firetrucks parked as blockers (6.8 crashes every day or 16% of all firetruck collisions). ¹ Studies have found that secondary collisions account for approximately 15% of all collisions & result in 18% of all traffic fatalities nationwide. ²

When an errant vehicle impacts a firetruck parked as a blocker, it may underride or snag on protrusions/recesses on the firetruck body resulting in a higher severity secondary crash. Firetrucks damaged by secondary crashes can be time-consuming & costly to repair. With firetrucks out-of-service for several weeks or months, departments may be forced to operate with reserve equipment or reduced capabilities.

The Mobile Barriers Emergency Response Barrier (ERB)^® is the first traffic barrier in the country specially made for Emergency Responders. The Mobile Barriers ERB^® is a highly mobile traffic barrier system designed to block errant vehicles while carrying materials & water to accident scenes.

Mobile Barriers ERB^® is based upon the award-winning Mobile Barriers MBT-1® which has proven itself repeatedly by blocking and redirecting cars and trucks while protecting road workers. With around 1,000,000 lbs. (4450000 N) of sheer strength, the ERB^® can stop a car, pickup or straight truck in a direct 90 degree impact of at least 45 mph (72 kmh). It’s capable of stopping or deflecting even more, particularly when angled to the approach.

The mobility of the ERB^® enables rapid response and its two parallel wall sections make it simple to deploy to the left or right. The ERB^® drives at speed like a semi-trailer and can quickly be positioned at an angle across multiple lanes. Its signage and TMA can be pivoted toward approaching traffic, and it can help carry materials and water to accident scenes to serve as a blocker-tanker/tender apparatus. The ERB's design enables easy visual inspection, repair, and modular replacement in the case of an incident.

Chassis-Style Barrier

The Mobile Barriers Blocker Truck ^TM is a shorter barrier designed to fit within smaller fire station apparatus bays. The Mobile Barriers Blocker Truck ^TM features a wall section integrated with a truck chassis (firetruck chassis or other truck chassis) to block errant vehicles & provide positive protection for emergency responders.

The Blocker Truck's mobility enables rapid response and its wall section integrated with the truck chassis makes it simple to deploy to the left or right. The Mobile Barriers Blocker Truck ^TM drives at speed like a firetruck apparatus and can quickly be positioned to block multiple lanes. Its signage and TMA can be pivoted toward approaching traffic, and it can help carry materials and water to accident scenes to serve as a blocker-tanker/tender apparatus.
